The Problem
Veterinarians don’t have jobs. We are our work. We define ourselves by the impact we have on our patients, their families, and our teams. And we are so freakin’ good at giving. Giving of ourselves – our time, our energy, our caring for those who cannot speak for themselves.
We’re the all-in go getters, high performing pain in the ass achievers.
Combine those elements – high passion, high achieving, and constant values conflicts….and it’s no wonder that mission driven leaders end up living the daily grind instead of the inspired career they once pursued.
With all of our education and skills, most of us have not yet learned the skills necessary to successfully integrate ourselves into our mission, and to balance the values we hold dear with our own well-being.
How do we choose to create personal abundance while balancing the leadership needs in practice? How on earth do we manage to honor our own experience while ensuring no patient is left behind? And how do we become empowered individuals, flourish personally and professionally, while leading our teams with flat out joy?
The Solution
Integration. Truth. Dual alignment.
It’s not this or that. Too often we see leaders abandoning their posts and their patients, believing that in order to care for themselves, the walls must go up. And while honoring our needs is a vital part of the work we do, it’s leaving our patients without. Here’s the thing, the solution lies in cultivating our own well-being without numbing ourselves to our mission. The solution is creating this AND.
It’s the secret sauce of feeling into exactly how do we achieve X mission AND satisfy Y value simultaneously. It’s learning how to honor all of who we are as individuals in our leadership, getting 100% right with ourselves so we can actually find the fun in our clients and teams, and it’s BEING in our lives and careers – instead of doing them.
